Brief Introduction

Introduction to Kalika Municipality Kalika Municipality is located in the northeastern part of Chitwan District in Bagmati Province of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. It was established by the Government of Nepal on 1 October 2015 (15 Ashwin 2072 B.S.) through the merger of the former Village Development Committees (VDCs) of Shaktikhor, Padampur, and Jutpani. During the restructuring of local governments, the former Siddhi VDC was incorporated into the municipality on 10 March 2017 (27 Falgun 2073 B.S.), expanding its administrative boundary and forming the present-day Kalika Municipality. The municipality is administratively divided into 11 wards. According to the National Population and Housing Census 2021, Kalika Municipality has a total population of 52,164, comprising 26,673 females and 25,491 males, with 12,258 households. The municipality covers a total area of 149.08 square kilometres. Its administrative office is located at Ward No. 6 (Redcrossgram ). Geographically, Kalika Municipality encompasses both Terai plains and hilly regions, making it one of the municipalities in Chitwan with diverse topography. It lies approximately between 27.10°N and 27.15°N latitude, and 84.10°E and 84.41°E longitude. Most of the lowland settlements are connected by all-weather roads, while a considerable portion of the road network has been blacktopped, providing improved accessibility throughout the municipality. Politically, all 11 wards of Kalika Municipality fall within Chitwan Electoral Constituency No. 2. Agriculture remains the backbone of the local economy. The municipality is highly fertile and is well known for the production of rice, maize, wheat, mustard, and lentils. In recent years, local farmers have increasingly diversified into banana cultivation, commercial vegetable farming, and livestock production, contributing to the municipality's agricultural development and economic growth. Following the local government restructuring in 2017, Kalika Municipality has experienced significant progress in infrastructure development and public service delivery. The hilly northern region, particularly Wards No. 10 and 11, is predominantly inhabited by the indigenous Chepang community, while the southern plains are undergoing rapid urbanization with expanding residential settlements and improved public infrastructure. Kalika Municipality shares its boundaries with Khairahani Municipality to the east, Bharatpur Metropolitan City (Ward No. 11 – Janajagriti Community Forest area) to the west, Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality and Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality of Dhading District to the north, and Ratnanagar Municipality to the south.
